Description
A Chinese export teabowl and saucer decorated in underglaze blue and overglaze enamels and dating from the Qianlong period. Both the teabowl and saucer have been moulded with spiral flutes, and the decoration follows the moulding. The rims of the teabowl and saucer have an iron brown dressing. The teabowl has an underglaze blue Meissen crossed-sword mark. Saucer diameter 10.7 cm (4.2"), teabowl diameter 6.7cm (2.6”)
This design with alternating spiral panels of underglaze blue and overglaze red and puce enamels is well-known from European porcelain. The design originated in the first half of the Eighteenth Century at Meissen, an was later copied in England at factories such as Worcester (where is was known as the Queen Charlotte pattern).
It is likely that this teabowl and saucer set was produced as a copy of the Meissen original. Chinese porcelain with European marks is quite rare.
Dating: Qianlong (1736 - 1795)
Condition:
Both the teabowl and saucer are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or restoration.
